The Government of Wondama Bay positively welcomes basic diving training

The Wondama Bay District Government, West Papua positively welcomed the basic diving training held by the Wondama Bay Creative Cassowary Youth (PKC). .

Wondama Bay Regent Hendrik Mambor in Wasior said Tuesday that diving training is a positive thing for Wondama Bay native youths to support tourism development, especially marine tourism.

The Regent of Mambor said that the readiness of human resources in the tourism sector is an important aspect that needs to be properly prepared so that Wondama Bay can become a major player in the tourism industry in the West Papua region.

The opportunity for Wondama Bay to become a major player in the tourism sector in the West Papua region, he continued, is now wide open especially after the formation of the Southwest Papua Province (PBD).

"Let's seize this opportunity, we move quickly with the formation of the PBD Province, because Raja Ampat has entered the PBD. So West Papua needs a new area to become a tourism center. I see it because our access is close to Manokwari. That is an opportunity for us," said Mambor.

The Regent hopes that in addition to diving skills (scuba diver), young people in coastal and island areas also need to be equipped with other skills such as English so that later they can become guides for tourists, especially foreign tourists.

"If you already have diving skills, what else should you add. Whether in English or otherwise. So that when we enter the tourism industry like Raja Ampat, of course this ability is something that is mandatory," said the number one person Wondama when opening the basic training activities diving takes place at Ketapang Lima Wasior Beach.

Zafiludin as Chair of the Committee explained that the basic diving training was attended by dozens of youths from the coastal areas and islands of Wondama Bay.

"This training is a certification level for Open Waters Divers in order to prepare human resources in the field of tourism. This is to train Wondama's sons and daughters so that they will be ready when guests visit tourist destinations. If anyone wants to dive, the guides are then ready. since the beginning," said Zafiludin.

The Chairman of the Creative Cassowary Youth (PKC) Teluk Wondama Asrul Sani targets that the diving training participants will later become dive guides for tourists who want to witness the underwater charms of Wondama Bay.

"Because there has been a shift after the formation of the new province of Southwest Papua, maybe the center of tourism will be Wondama because previously it was Raja Ampat. It depends on us humans in Wondama, especially the youth, how we can create tourists," said Asrul.

The diving training lasted for five days guided by an experienced diving instructor, Kenedi Wenas.

Wenas is known to have a dive center in Raja Ampat and previously been involved in the world of marine tourism for a long time, including in Bali.
