Yudo Margono: Papua has not yet received an emergency status, the KKB's actions are still criminal

The TNI Commander, Admiral Yudo Margono, made a firm statement regarding the actions of the Armed Criminal Group in Papua, alias KKB Papua.

The separatist group carried out various actions and claimed many lives, not including other injured victims.

Despite this fact, the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, Admiral Yudo Margono, revealed something surprising.
 
He said that even though Papua was still being hit by separatist actions, in general Papua had not yet had the status of an emergency area.

Enforcement against Armed Criminal Groups, he said, is still being carried out by the police.

"I think until now it is still categorized as a criminal act of breaking the law, criminal. It is still at the criminal stage, so it is still under the authority of the National Police," he said.

"If it's an emergency, it's the president who decides. I think the current escalation isn't (emergency), it's still at the criminal level," said Yudo Margono.

"The territory will continue, we will carry it out in accordance with the territorial apparatus there, such as the Kodim, Korem, Koramil, with existing forces. Of course we will continue to carry out territorial operations there," he said.

Later, Yudo revealed his reasons for continuing territorial operations. He said the Papuan people really needed support from the TNI.

"Especially at schools, he said, many teachers have left their places. It is mandatory for the TNI to be there. Then, if there is a lack of public transportation, we will help, so that community social activities can continue," said Yudo.

Yudo Margono added that the TNI would also prepare the main weapons system (alutsista) to anticipate conflicts in border areas.

"We don't expect that (conflict) to occur, but we are still ready to anticipate everything that happens, of course land, sea and air forces. We maintain professionalism, then the defense equipment is always on standby," said Yudo.

In addition, Yudo Margono also prioritized diplomacy to anticipate conflicts in border areas.
 
"It's not easy, the border conflict hasn't happened for one or two years. The Natuna border has been crossed 14 times, starting in 1973, it wasn't finished.

This means that we will continue to carry out diplomatic cooperation to anticipate the occurrence of it (conflict)," said the former KSAL
