Schools Must Provide Masks and Sinks To Prevent Corona Virus

The Papua Provincial Education, Library and Archives Service asked every school in Jayapura and surrounding areas to provide masks and washbasins equipped with antiseptic soap. This was to prevent transmission of the Corona virus at school.

Head of the Papua Provincial Education, Library and Archives Service, Christian Sohilait, said schools must protect their students from spreading Corona outbreaks. According to him, reserve masks can be given when there are students who cough.

"This is merely to prevent. Although there are no cases of Corona infection in Papua, I think the virus is spreading rapidly. Every day planes and ships enter Jayapura City. We have to prepare this city early, "Sohilait said in Jayapura, Wednesday (3/4/2020).

Sohilait said it was currently preparing a draft appeal to anticipate the early spread of the corona virus in the school environment.

"The appeal includes that all students in Papua avoid physical contact [such as shaking hands], and always maintain hygiene while at school," Sohilait said.

Christian Sohilait added that the anticipation of the Corona outbreak was very important, because handling would be more difficult if the virus had entered Papua. If Corona infections occur in Papua, the impact is very heavy for the world of education, because it could be one school closed.

Separately, Deputy Mayor of Jayapura Rustan Saru has conducted unannounced visits to a number of pharmacies and drug distributors in Jayapura City. The sudden inspection was carried out among others to check the availability of masks in Jayapura.
