The Government Has Not Planned to Postpone PON 2020 Papua

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said, to date there are no plans to postpone the XXth National Sports Week (PON) to be held in Papua, October.

This relates to the Covid-19 outbreak that began to run rampant in the country, especially in DKI Jakarta. "According to the direction of the President, there is no delay," Muhadjir told Kompas.com, Friday (3/20/2020).

Muhadjir said, until now, all preparations for the implementation of PON which will be held in Papua are still going according to schedule.

He also hoped that Covid-19 would not interfere with the implementation of the PON which was held October 20 to November 2. "Hopefully it does not (disturb). All preparations are still going according to schedule," he said.

Reported earlier, Muhadjir said construction of the venue or venue for the XXth PON in Papua had reached 80 percent.

He said the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) had completed the construction of as many as 12 building venues with a capacity of 1,816 people.

"The Ministry of PUPR has already built 80 percent of the venues that will be available. Preparing 12 buildings with a capacity of 1,816 people," Muhadjir said after a coordination meeting on the preparation of the PON at the PMK Coordinating Ministry's Office, last Thursday (05/03/2020).

The XX PON will be held in Papua from October 20 to November 2. The implementation of PON itself was held in Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency and Merauke Regency.
