Dozens of groceries arrived in Papua

A total of 41 containers containing food in the form of onions, eggs, sugar and several other food items arrived at the port of Jayapura, Tuesday night, April 14, 2020. The food was transported by KM Ceremai owned by PT Pelni from Jakarta.

The Head of the Papua Provincial Transportation Service, Recky Ambrauw said that nine-basic necessities were ordered by the Papua Provincial government to ensure that the needs of nine-basic necessities in the Cenderawasih earth could be fulfilled amid the co-19 pademi.

"Hopefully it can meet the needs of the community. And I make sure that there are no passengers other than crew (ABK)," said Recky at the Port of Jayapura.

At the same place, Jayapura Mayor Deputy Rustan Saru said that the arrival of a number of staple foods in Papua could normalize the price of food that had soared due to low supply. The public is also advised not to panic with rising food prices.

"We have already brought food staples. So, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow can be distributed to supermarkets and supermarkets," Rustan said.

According to Rustan, until now there have been price spikes such as shallots, chicken eggs. But with the arrival of the nine basic necessities, community needs can be met.

"For the availability of rice, it will last for the next four months. Whereas the food needs that come can meet the needs of the community for only six months," he said.
