The Papua Regional Police denied the news of the attack and seizure of ammunition and the occupation of 4 Emergency Posts owned by the TNI / Polri in Nduga Regency. The news circulated on social media.
Head of the Papua Police Head of Humad Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal said that the news was a propaganda deliberately made by the KKB Armed Criminal Group to create panic and false news so that they were feared by residents.
"Not true. Information circulating on social media and online media that the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) carried out attacks and seizures of ammunition and occupied 4 emergency posts of the TNI / Polri by Nduga District. That is a hoax," said Head of the Papua Regional Police Headquarters Comrades Ahmad Musthofa Kamal told reporters in Jayapura on Thursday (05/28/2020).
Information about the attack and seizure of ammunition and occupation of 4 Emergency Posts owned by the TNI / Polri in Nduga District was conveyed by a spokesman for the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB), Sebby Sambom.
In his statement, Sebby said that his party had attacked the TNI-Polri post in Nduga Regency on May 18-25, 2020. Armed criminal groups (KKB) also claimed to have seized ammunition and other communication tools belonging to the TNI / Polri. In addition, they have occupied 4 TNI / Polri emergency posts.
Sebby Sambom said that TPNPB forces had succeeded in occupying an emergency post that had been abandoned by the TNI-Polri and then seized the military equipment that had been left behind. Among them were 60 active bullet magazines with 1,800 rounds of ammunition, 3 units of chain bullets, 16 basoka rocket bullets, 30 backpacks, 12 camera cellphones, 6 handy talkies (HT), 2 cellphones from Inmarsat and Thuraya satellites, 15 vests bulletproof, shoes, clothes, pants, tarpaulin, and other equipment that has not been specified.
"All the statements are not true it's just propaganda or hoaxes," Kamal stressed.
Kamal also said that the KKB led by Egianus Kogoya continued to provocate and spread news or information that caused panic among residents in Papua, especially in Nduga Regency. This has triggered a number of recent incidents, namely the persecution and seizure of firearms belonging to Polri members who were at Pol 99 Post in Ndeotadi Village, Paniai Regional Police.
Then the shooting of PT Freeport non-employee residents at Mile 61 of the Mimika Regency Freeport Area on Thursday (5/21), and the shooting of two medical officers at Intan Jaya the day after. In the latest incident, a medical officer handling COVID-19 died while carrying out humanitarian tasks in the Wandai District and one medical worker survived and was still undergoing intensive care at Nabire Regional Hospital.
"We will continue to pursue the perpetrators, to carry out law enforcement against the group," Kamal said.
