Create Diversity Into State Defending Power, Through Preservation of Pencak Silat As Nation Culture

Korem 172 / PWY held creative Social Communication (Komsos) with the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (IPSI) in Jayapura. The Social Services Program was held in the Hall of Makorem 172 / PWY, on Monday 29 June 2020.

Korem 172 / PWY commander, Brigadier General Izak Pangemanan said that today's activity was in the context of creating diversity into a state defense force, through the preservation of pencak silat as the culture of the Indonesian people.

Even though pencak silat culture is from Java, many young people in Papua are incorporated in various existing martial arts schools, so this is good to be developed.

"We also want to shape Indonesian human resources who are creative, innovative and adaptive, especially in Jayapura to face the challenges of national and state life," he said.

Korem 172 / PWY commander Brigadier General Izak Pangemanan also invited all martial arts schools in Jayapura to join hands to maintain unity and integrity in Bumi Cenderawasih

The Chairman of IPSI Jayapura Regency, Alvius Demena representing the Chairman of IPSI Papua Province said that pencak silat is one of the cultures of the Indonesian people who are already in all corners of the country, including in Papua Province.

"We need the support of all parties to develop pencak silat in Papua, so that we can compete with other provinces in Indonesia. We hope that in PON XX in 2021, pencak silat from Papua can win 3 medals out of 23 medals competed, "he said.

Alvius hopes that with this meeting, regular meetings can be followed up, so that more and more young people are interested in becoming martial arts athletes in Papua.

"We hope that the university management and trainers will be more active in training our athletes and can cooperate with Korem to hold matches or championships in Korem 172 / PWY," he explained.

In the activity, the compassion from the Korem 172 / PWY Commander was also distributed as a form of attention, so as to provide encouragement and enthusiasm to the martial arts athletes and universities present.
