Coordinating Minister for PMK: Distribution of Social Aid in Papua Must Be Accelerated

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy called for the distribution of social assistance (social assistance) in Papua and West Papua.

Distribution of social assistance from the central government to the province is known to have not been able to be carried out 100 percent because of transportation access constraints.

"There are several districts in West Papua that have not been reached by the Social Aid because of transportation difficulties. There is also data that has not been sent to the Ministry of Social Affairs. I ask that this be accelerated," Muhadjir said in Manokwari, Tuesday (7/7).

The Coordinating Minister for PMK said that there were 31 regencies / cities that were not able to distribute food staples in Papua and West Papua. That is why the absorption of social assistance from the center for the two provinces is still low. Including the distribution of cash social assistance (BST) which was late because of difficulty in accessing.

"The mechanism for distribution of social assistance in Papua will soon be adjusted so that aid can immediately be received by the community," he said.

Based on the progress of the distribution of regular social assistance programs as of July 5, 2020 for the nine-basic necessities program, the allocation in West Papua Province has only reached 50.7 percent. While the Province of Papua has only reached 42.5 percent.

In West Papua, the distribution of non-regular social assistance, namely BST as of 5 July 2020 the first phase reached 57.8 percent, the second phase reached 57.8 percent, and the third phase reached 23.1 percent. Whereas in Papua Province the first phase only reached 43.1 percent, the second phase reached 42.4 percent, and the third phase reached 20.1 percent.

Muhadjir's visit to Papua and West Papua was also accompanied by the Head of the National Task Force Doni Monardo, Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto, as well as the House of Representatives Commission VIII and IX leaders.
