Kapolda: Don't be easily provoked

Papua Police Chief Inspector General of Police. Paulus Waterpauw, said the launching of a Papuan petition by 16 community organizations rejected the extension of Special Autonomy (Otsus) as a provocation effort.

"I do not agree if they will carry out the campaign, it is called a provocation effort," he said on the sidelines of coffee morning at Aston Jayapura Hotel, Friday (07/17/2020).

The regional police chief admitted that the special autonomy given by the central government to the Papua province had not failed.

Because, if it is said to be a failure, it is impossible for Papuan children to become leaders, pilot schools and doctors.

"What makes them judge Otsus is a failure. If there is a failure then we all fail, "surprisingly.

The Kapolda even asked for any criteria if Otsus in Papua was said to be a failure. Because if Otsus is considered unsuccessful then all Papuan children also fail.

"All Papuans fail, what do they mean by the failure of Otsus, I also failed to become a Regional Police Chief, Otsus which made me a Regional Police Chief," he said.

The Kapolda precisely said Papua should be proud, because it was given Otsus as a birthright.

"We should be grateful. I do not agree if they make campaign efforts, "he stressed.

The Kapolda also reminded that if there were elements of violation of the law, the Papua Regional Police would take action.

"But we all hope that nothing untoward happens," he hoped.

As is known, responding to the discussion of the continuation of Special Autonomy volume II, as many as 16 organizations expressed the refusal of Special Autonomy and launched a Papuan petition to be mobilized throughout the territory.

They asked all parties discussing Otsus to return it to the people of Papua to decide.
