Special Autonomy Will Build Papua Towards Prosperity

Papua Governor Lukas Enembe reminded future generations related to the validity period of the special autonomy fund (Otsus) which is certain to end in 2021.

The next generation is asked to get ready by working to increase competitiveness and professionalism to support the implementation of development in the province.

That is, what has failed do not be repeated again. But improve it well so that it can bring the people of Papua to a better future.

"The point is the mistakes made by the governors of the Special Autonomy era, the next generation must think more advanced and smart. You have to show that you can build this province, "explained Lukas Enembe at the Special Autonomy Day celebration at the Cenderawasih GOR Jayapura, Wednesday (11/21).

Enembe said, although since Otsus had achieved a lot of success, many had to be improved. Thus, future generations will be asked to be ready to only implement the Special Autonomy Law without financial support.

"Because the challenges ahead will be more complex and crucial. Which recently the big countries are fighting over the Pacific region including Papua, "he said.

"So now the people just have to choose, do they want to advance or not? or want to fight all the time? or still want to keep fussing? It all depends on the people of Papua, he continued.

Papua Governor Lukas Enembe said the 17 years of the Special Autonomy (Papua) journey in Papua were not as perfect as everyone had hoped, because there were still many weaknesses and shortcomings. One of them, Papua has not had a grand design as well from the start.

In general, he said, in the era of the leadership of the late Jacobus Perviddya Solossa (Governor of Papua in 2000), a hard struggle to develop Papua had been carried out, so that the community could feel the development like roads and so on.

The birth of Otsus in 2001 immediately brought new hope for Papuans to change and organize themselves for the better. Where, with initial funding of Rp1 trillion in 2002, Papua began to be rebuilt, including by opening 11 roads to the interior.

Papua's development continued until he led for the second time period, where 80% of the Special Autonomy Fund was managed by the province, now reversed to be managed by the regency and city.

"But again the success of development is not determined by the government, but by the people of Papua themselves. For this reason, in the remaining days of leadership we invite all Papuans to participate in developing the province towards prosperity and prosperity, "he concluded.
