TNI-Polri Destroy Thousands of Bottles of Miras and Marijuana


Commander of the 172 / PWY Military Resort Command as the Commander of the 172 / PWY Korem Operations along with all stakeholders in Jayapura City destroyed thousands of bottles of illegal liquor and smuggled marijuana obtained by the RI-PNG Border Security Task Force during their duties in 2019 until 2020.

The liquor that was destroyed as many as 1,484 consisted of PNG liquor, Vodka, Wine, local drinks and as much as 2 kilograms of dried marijuana in Makorem 172 / PWY Abepura, on Friday (24/7).

Danrem 172 / PWY Brigadier General Izak Pangemanan said the destruction of this evidence was the TNI's commitment as a pioneer to crack down on all forms of drug distribution and distribution as well as illegal liquor distribution at the border.

"This activity also aims to show the top commanders, the community and all soldiers that the evidence that has been kept at Kolakopsrem 172 / PWY is not misused and in the context of fair law enforcement for the people and TNI soldiers," he said.

Izak continued, currently the spread of drugs and alcohol is very unsettling for people in the border region, because its circulation has spread to the villages near the border and the targets are ranging from students, youth and adults.

"Because it has penetrated the younger generation of Papua, this must be the focal point of all stake holders both TNI-Polri, the Government and all components of society to work together to fight drugs and alcohol," he said.

Izak also mentioned that Miras, cannabis and others are also triggering aspects that can damage the future of a nation.

"Maybe there is no impact now, but we will definitely feel the next few years. I hope that the people ranging from small groups to large environments firmly reject and oppose the circulation of alcohol, cannabis and other drugs in border areas, "he said.
