Dozens of Papuans Request Evacuation from Beoga Papua

Papua Police Chief Inspector General of Police Mathius Fakhiri said around 40 immigrants from outside Papua asked to be evacuated immediately from Beoga, Puncak Regency to the Timika area.

They feel that their safety conditions are threatened after the shooting that killed two teachers last week.

Kapolda Mathius Fakhiri said that currently dozens of migrants from outside Papua gathered or took refuge at the Koramil Office and partly at the Beoga Police.

Some of the residents who asked to be evacuated out of Beoga were teachers who served in the Beoga District, their families and other residents who had been making a living in the area by opening stalls for basic necessities and motorcycle taxi drivers.

"Last night I received information that there were about 40 people. Hopefully they can be evacuated from there," said Inspector General Fakhiri, Monday (12/4).

The Papua Police Chief has not been able to confirm when the dozens of migrants from outside Papua can be evacuated from Beoga. This, he said, very much depends on the security conditions at Beoga Airport, which are currently known to be disturbed by the presence of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).

"If we can secure the parameters around Beoga Airport, then surely we will take the people there out of the area," he explained.

Last week, two teachers who were on duty in Beoga District, Puncak Regency were shot dead by KKB who were identified as the Nau Waker group, aka Not So Waker.

Guru Oktovianus Rayo (42) who has served 10 years at SD Kelmabet, Beoga District was shot by KKB while guarding his kiosk in the housing complex for teachers of SMP Negeri 1 Beoga on Thursday (8/4).

The wife of the late Oktovianus is known to be a teacher at SMP Negeri 1 Beoga.

The late Oktovianus was hit by a bullet from close range, hitting his ribs and piercing his stomach.

A day later, Yonathan Renden, a teacher at SMP Negeri 1 Beoga, also died after being shot by KKB.

At that time, Yonathan and the Principal of SMP Negeri 1 Beoga had just left the house at the end of Beoga Airport to pick up a tarpaulin, about to wrap the body of the late Oktovianus.

The late Yonathan was hit by a KKB bullet shot in the left chest and right chest.

The bodies of the two teachers were taken to Toraja, South Sulawesi on Sunday (11/4) to be buried in their respective hometowns, namely in Sa'dan Pebulian and Toyasa Akung.
