95.3 percent of positive COVID-19 patients in Papua recover

The Papua Province COVID-19 Prevention and Handling Task Force stated that the recovery rate for patients infected with the corona virus had again increased to 95.3 percent.

Cumulative data as of Thursday (20/5) recorded 22,132 people who tested positive for COVID-19, and of these, 21,042 people recovered or 95.3 percent.

SGPP COVID-19 Papua spokesman Dr. Silwanus Sumule when asked by ANTARA regarding the high rate of cure for COVID-19 in Papua, Sunday evening, in Jayapura, stated that it was difficult to input data from the regions due to network disruptions that had occurred since the end of April.

The impact of the network disruption caused by the breakdown of the underwater cable made it difficult for the task force to enter COVID-19 data.

"It is true that we have difficulty entering data, not only on the progress of COVID-19 but also vaccinations," said Dr. Silwanus Sumule.

He added that currently there are 603 people who are undergoing treatment, both independent isolation at home and in the hospital, or 2.3 percent.

There were 436 people who died from COVID-19, or two percent, 1,111 close contacts and 1,020 suspected people, said Dr. Sumule.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for SGPP COVID-19 in Merauke Regency, Dr. Neville Maskita, separately said that 10 of the 912 people who were treated for COVID-19 were currently positive.

Of these, 53 people were recorded as having died from COVID-19, added Dr. Masita.
