Chairman of KONI: The success of PON XX 2021 is the pride of Papua and Indonesia

The chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano Norman said the success of the XX 2021 National Sports Week (PON) is the pride of the Papuan people.

"The implementation of the 2021 PON is also the pride of the entire Indonesian nation as a benchmark for foreign countries to see the handling of Covid-19 in Indonesia," said Marciano.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of KONI while attending a coordination meeting for the preparation of the XX 2021 PON which was held by the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) in the Sasana Karya Room, the Papua Governor's Office, Wednesday (2/6/2021).

For information, PON XX 2021 will be held on October 2-5, 2021. There are 37 sports and 10 expedition branches that will be competed.

Because the Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing, the Chairman of KONI requested that everyone involved in the implementation of the 2021 PON XX must have been vaccinated.

"Currently, the Covid-19 condition in Papua is quite good, but the other 33 provinces must also be good. Athletes and officials must also be vaccinated, the community around the venue must also be vaccinated, so that the Covid-19 condition can be well controlled," said Marciano.

The chairman of KONI, on the occasion also mentioned the very dynamic security conditions in Papua.

"But I believe with the support of the Regional Police Chief (Kapolda) and the Commander of the Regional Military Command (Pangdam), the security situation in Papua will be conducive," he said, as in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday.

Marciano is optimistic that the situation and conditions at the venue for the XX 2021 PON will be conducive.

The locations in question include Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency and Merauke Regency.

Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of the Papua Provincial Government Dance Yulian Flassy appreciated the presence of the KONI Chair for the umpteenth time to Papua.

According to Flassy, ​​the presence of Marciano who paid attention to the preparation of the PON had a positive impact on the PON Grand Committee (PB).

"(When) the General Chairperson of KONI arrived, things that were all deadlocked (so) went well, and within the next few months could be completed," said Flassy.

On this occasion, the Regional Secretary of the Papua Provincial Government also appreciated the performance of the four districts and cities that will host the PON, in suppressing the number of Covid-19 transmissions.

"The Covid-19 movement has descended in Papua, the PB PON sub-sub-divisions can fight by tightening the health protocols," said Flassy.

In addition to being attended by the Chair of KONI and the Regional Secretary of the Papua Provincial Government, the coordination meeting for the preparation of the XX 2021 PON was also attended by the Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, the XVII/Cenderawasih Military Commander Major General Ignatius Yogo Triyono, the Daily Chair of the Papua PON PON Yunus Wonda and all regional heads of the PON Sub-PB PON.
