Getting More Violent, Papuan KKB Burns Airport Tower and Housing




The terrorist acts of the Papuan Armed Criminal Group (KKB) became more violent, after killing a resident, the gang attacked the Aminggaru Airport facility, Ilaga District, Papua on Thursday (3/6/2021).

The incident caused a number of facilities at the airport to be damaged. The Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, said there had been a shootout.

"Thursday (4/6/2021) around 17.40 WIT, the Aminggaru Airport facilities were burned, one airport tower, airport waiting room, three air transportation housing estates and one resident's house burned down by KKB," said Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri via text message, Friday. (4/6/2021).

At the time of the incident, security forces in Ilaga City saw thick smoke billowing from the direction of Aminggaru Airport. Furthermore, monitoring was carried out using drones and several airport facilities were found to be on fire.

Fakhiri said the joint security forces, led by the Puncak Police Chief, went straight to the scene. "There was a gunfight between joint personnel and KKB before arriving at the airport," said Fakhiri.

Gunfire lasted for about an hour. The security forces chose to withdraw because the situation was getting dark.

It is planned that Friday (4/6/2021) morning, security forces will return to Aminggaru Airport and KKB is estimated to still be at that location. "It is possible that there will be another gunfight, for sure we will not back down," said Fakhiri.

KKB Shoots Civilians

Abel Halenti (30), was shot dead by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), on Thursday (3/6/2021). Abel Halenti (30) was declared dead from a gunshot wound to the back of the neck.

At that time, Abel Halenti was with his colleague Muhammad Alif who was known to have survived the KKB attack. Muhammad Alif recounts the last moments before Abel Halenti died.

According to Muhammad Alif, Abel Halenti had begged for forgiveness so that he would not be killed by KKB members.

It is known that the shooting occurred in Eromaga Village, Omukia District, Puncak Regency, Papua, at around 12.30 WIT.

"Today (3/6/2021) a shooting was carried out by KKB in Omukia and killed Hable Halenti, who used to work as a construction worker," said Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri in Jayapura.

At that time, Abel Halenti and Muhammad Alif departed from the employee camp in the shower complex of Kibogolome Village, Ilaga District, towards Eronggobak Village, Omukia District.

They used an official white double cabin pickup belonging to the Pemda Puncak to transport pigs. At 13.00 WIT, Abel Halenti and Muhammad Alif were about to return home.
However, two KKB members pointed their guns at them. The two KKB members used one short-barreled weapon and a long-barreled weapon.

"The victim shouted 'Sorry Commander' but was immediately shot by one of the KKB, who pointed the gun once," said Fakhiri.

Muhammad Alif who was frightened immediately jumped into the car.

He drove the car and left the scene.

Fakhiri said that when the witness ran with another colleague named Abdul Haras'z to the Ilaga Police, the KKB fired shots that hit the car door.

At around 14.00 WIT, Puncak Police Chief Kompol I Nyoman Punia immediately led troops to the scene.

"When they arrived at the scene, the TNI and Polri personnel were fired upon by the KKB who had been waiting for the arrival of members of the TNI-Polri and had been harassed three times, resulting in a shootout for about 15 minutes," said Fakhiri

Currently, the victim's body has been evacuated to the Ilaga Health Center.
