Former Papuan KKB Members Hand over 2 Looted Guns to TNI

The TNI Mandala Task Force received two stolen firearms (senpi) from residents and former members of the Papuan armed criminal group (KKB). Currently, the two guns have been secured at Makodim 1702/Jayawijaya.

Dandim 1702/Jayawijaya Lt. Col. Inf. Arif B Situmeang said that the two firearms that had been secured at the Makodim were received from the Mandala 1 Task Force on duty in Jayawijaya Regency and Tolikara Regency, Papua.

"These two guns are fundraising from the Mandala Task Force with Babinsa. The first is a 9-millimeter caliber macarof, which is raised in Wollo (Jayawijaya) District and the revolver is from Tolikara Regency," he said, Wednesday (23/6/2021).

The TNI kept the identities of the two former KKB members a secret who handed over the guns for the safety of those concerned and their families.

One of the two weapons belonged to a police officer who was confiscated by the KKSB when they attacked the Pirime Police Station, Lanny Jaya Regency.

"We would like to thank the public for the information, cooperation and also for their open-mindedness to return to the country goods that do not belong to them. This would be very dangerous if it was in the wrong place," he said.

The Dandim appealed to the public if anyone was still holding a rifle resulting from the Pirime Police attack, they should be returned.

Dansattis Task Force Mandala 1 Inf Captain Andy Satria said the rifle was received from a member of the community with the initials S, who some time ago also helped them uncover marijuana fields in Wollo District.

"This S has helped us in uncovering the marijuana fields in Wollo, then from there it developed this S was entrusted with a shoot that was close to a separatist group but was afraid to keep it, finally handed it over to S and S handed it over to us," he said.

He expressed his gratitude to S, who realized that the gun was dangerous for the local community, so he handed it over to them.

The Danpos of the Mandala 1 Task Force, First Lieutenant Inf. Edi Harianto, said that a revolver type rifle was handed over by one of the former KKB members with the initials D. D. He handed over the gun because he felt he had received attention from the government.

"Thanks to our fundraising and with awareness and sincerity because they feel the government has paid attention, so they handed over one revolver that they confiscated in 2012," he said.

The revolver was handed over with five rounds of bullets. These two guns are still active and functioning well.
