Jayapura Regent Talks about Preparation for XX Papua PON 2021

In just a matter of months, the 20th National Sports Week (PON) will be held in Papua. The highest multi-pronged event in the country will be held on October 2-15, 2021.

Indeed, PON XX Papua was held last year. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government decided to postpone the PON implementation to this year.

In an interview with CNBC Indonesia at a hotel in Jakarta, Tuesday (22/6/2021), Jayapura Regent Matthew Awoitauw who is also the Head of the PB PON Sub-Cluster of Jayapura Regency told the latest developments.

"We have done the preparations. The venue can be said to be 90% ready. The 10% may have been completed recently and the last technical delegate from the Central KONI can see in the near future, the last verification, that this already meets national standards. That's all we have to do is communicate, "he said.

According to him, the Jayapura Regency Government has prepared supporting facilities. Likewise, the readiness of supporting facilities in two regencies and one other city that will host.

Matthew revealed that Jayapura Regency will be in the spotlight because the opening and closing ceremonies will be held at the Lukas Enembe Stadium. Therefore, he admitted that he had to work hard to involve all parties.

"Indigenous people, youth, women, then associations in Jayapura Regency, we will organize all of them. And we have socialized and have had dialogue with them. Because these are also our brothers and sisters. South Sulawesi Family Association, contingent delegation from South Sulawesi, let's welcome it together," said Matthew.
"So we are the hosts, you know, who live there. We have built those communications. We just need to tidy up what we haven't prepared yet. That's all," he continued.
