Progress of PON XX has reached 92 percent

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has the task of building 3 additional venues to support the implementation of the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua Province in 2021.

The three sports arenas are the Skate, Rowing, and Archery venues which are currently in the final stages of construction and are targeted to be fully completed on July 31, 2021.

Deputy Minister of Public Works and Public Housing John Wempi Wetipo, while reviewing the three venues, advised that in completing the construction in less than two months, pay attention to quality.

"We hope that the 3 venues that are still under construction can be completed according to the target by the end of July 2021. Work harder until the implementation of PON XX but still maintain quality," said Deputy Minister of Wempi.

Meanwhile, Director General of Human Settlements, Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti reminded to maximize the use of domestic components for construction materials for the three venues.

"I advise you to prioritize using domestic products, don't be too quick to import materials if there are still domestic products. Previously, some components were imported, but they are still at a reasonable level. For example, roller skates from Korea, but overall the comparison is still low. 70% of domestic products," said Diana.

The construction of the three additional venues has begun to be carried out by the Ministry of PUPR through the Papua Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW), Directorate General of Human Settlements since February 25, 2020 with the overall progress until June 17, 2021 reaching 92.40%.

Previously, the PUPR Ministry had completed four main venues, namely the Aquatic arena and Istora Papua Bangkit in the Kampung Harapan sports area and the Cricket venue and Hockey field (indoor and outdoor) at the Doyo Baru sports complex. The four have been handed over to the Papua Provincial Government.

The construction of an additional venue for the Roller Skate Arena was built on an area of ​​26,520 m2 with a building area of ​​6,067 m2 in the Waena Campground area, Jayapura City.

Several facilities and infrastructure supporting the venue have been completed, such as the stands with a capacity of 650 people, the lighting system for the 1,501 lux track and the 449 lux safe zone lighting, the sound system, and the scoring board. Overall, the construction progress of the Roller Skate Arena reached 98.59%.

Then the Rowing sports arena was built not far from the red Youtefa Bridge that spans over Youtefa Bay. The Paddle venue work began with the construction of a coastal protection in the form of a reclamation of 10,000 m3 by the Papua River Basin Center (BWS), the Directorate General of Water Resources.

Furthermore, in the reclamation area, a boat shed with an area of ​​1,750 m2, 521 m2 modular pontoon, 2 gangway units, and 1 unit of a 14.4-meter finish tower were built. Meanwhile, in the water area, 1 unit of start tower, 5 units of monitoring tower, 8 units of distance markers, 8 units of anchoring stakes, and 2 units of obstacle canoe slalom are installed.

The rowing track was built with a length of 2,200 meters with a width of 81 meters (9 tracks) with the implementing contractor PT Nindya Karya (Persero) using a state budget of Rp 16.9 billion. Currently, the progress of the construction of the Paddle PON Papua venue has reached 52.6%.

Finally, the Archery Arena was built in the Kampung Harapan sports complex area, East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency. This venue is built on an area of ​​40,863 m2 and has a building area of ​​1,217 m2 with a Cycloop mountain landscape which is the main attraction for the Papua PON Archery arena.

The location of the Archery venue is equipped with a 10,100 m2 playing field and an 8,207 m2 training field. Where on the playing field is equipped with a drainage system under the field, lighting, and sound system. Currently, the overall progress of the construction of the Archery venue has reached 99.68%.
