The 2021 PON Committee Says Most of the Arenas Are Ready for Use

 General Secretary (Sekum) of the Large Committee (PB) of the National Sports Week (PON) Elia Loupatty said most of the arenas were ready to be used for trial matches in June 2021.

Elia said that currently, only the temporary arena has not been built because it is feared that it will be damaged, so that the arena will be built in the near future ahead of the PON. According to him, one of the places that is still in progress is the Rugby arena.

He said that currently the arena for Rugby matches is still being handled by the Papua Province Sports and Youth Service (Disorda).

He also explained that the construction of the rugby arena has its own techniques, such as the use of synthetic grass so that it does not take long to prepare it.

"Then basically all venues can be used by the public after the event is held, but this must be adjusted by the management of the local government," he said.

Elia also appealed that public security and order must be maintained so that Papua can be a good host and be able to make PON XX 2021 a success.

As previously reported, the government plans to hold the XX PON 2021 in Papua. PON activities will be held in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali said XX PON will be held in conjunction with the 16th National Paralympic Week (Peparnas).

Both events will be held from 2 to 15 October 2021 in Papua.

Menpora Amali also emphasized that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wants the XX PON activities not to be postponed again.

"The President's directive, because this is ready, we will do it in 2021, there is no delay in PON because we have postponed it in 2020," Amali said in a limited meeting with ministers at the Merdeka Palace.
