TNI-Polri Arms Contact at Ilaga Airport

Joint TNI-Polri personnel carried out patrols in response to the sound of gunfire around Ilaga Airport, Puncak Regency, Papua on Monday 7 June 2021. Gunfire ensued and one member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Lekagak Telenggen was shot.

The Head of the Nemangkawi Ops Public Relations Task Force, Kombes Iqbal Alqudusy, said the patrol was led by Police Chief Kompol Nyoman and Dandim Lt. Col. Rofi Irwansah.

"The Lekagak Telenggen terrorist group continued to shoot at the officers from the direction of Honei, but the officers did not move and continued to comb towards the terrorist group at a height," said Iqbal in his statement, Tuesday (8/6/2021).

According to Iqbal, eight joint TNI-Polri personnel arrived in the vicinity of Ilaga Airport, Puncak, Papua at 17.04 WIT. The team then monitored the direction to the right of the airport and saw someone hiding beside the house.

"He was holding a firearm and the Nemangkawi Task Force personnel fired, so that one person was shot in the thigh," he explained.

KKB had burned a number of houses in the vicinity of the coordinates near the area of ​​the gun battle. The KKB member who was shot was identified as Sapikul.

"The joint team is still conducting sweeps and pursuits of the Armed Terrorist Criminal Group who brought their comrade who was shot. The TNI-Polri Joint Patrol continues to provide protection and security for the Ilaga community," Iqbal emphasized.
