The Ministry of PUPR Hopes that the PON Venue Can Boost the Economy in Papua
The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) handed over the management of 4 sports arenas (venues) to be used for the XX National Sports Week (PON) to the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov).
Director General of Human Settlements at the PUPR Ministry Diana Kusumastuti hopes that the arena will not only benefit the development of athletes' achievements, but also encourage the economy in Papua.
"When the COVID-19 pandemic is over, with its very adequate capacity, Istora Papua Bangkit can also be used to hold music concert events," Diana said.
"So the hope is that all the infrastructure that has been built will not only be useful for improving the achievements of Papuan athletes, but also encourage economic activity in Cenderawasih Earth," he continued.
The four arenas are Aquatic and Istora Papua Bangkit in Harapan Village, East Sentani District.
Then, the cricket venue and hockey arena (indoor and outdoor) at the Doyo Baru Complex, Waibu District, Jayapura Regency.
According to him, the Directorate General of Human Settlements in December 2018 began to build an aquatic arena at a cost of Rp. 401 billion.
Then, the construction of Istora Papua Bangkit was carried out by the contractor PT PP (Persero) at a state budget cost of IDR 278.5 billion.
The place was built since November 2018 by utilizing an area of 33,016 square meters in the Kampung Harapan Sports Area.
The next two venues, namely the cricket and hockey arenas, have been implemented by contractor PT Nindya Karya (Persero) which was built on an area of 133,509 square meters at a cost of Rp 288.3 billion.
The construction of sports infrastructure as support for the implementation of the Papua PON refers to Presidential Instruction No. 10 of 2017.
Diana asked the Papua Provincial Government to maintain all the assets that had been handed over.
"I entrust a message to my colleagues from the Papua Provincial Government to maintain, care for and manage all the assets that have been handed over as well as possible," he said.
Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of the Papua Provincial Government Dance Yulian Flassy expressed his gratitude for the support of the central government.
Yulian said that the task of his party is to utilize the existing infrastructure as a means of economic growth and the welfare of the surrounding community.
"Our homework is how to use this good infrastructure to encourage economic growth and better welfare of the Papuan people, Torang Bisa," he said.
