KONI Papua immediately return TC athletes and try out in Java

The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Papua immediately repatriated its athletes who were undergoing a try out or training camp (TC) on the island of Java due to the increasing situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The General Secretary of KONI Papua, Kenius Kogoya, said that his party had coordinated with sports branches that enforced tryouts and TC on the island of Java to immediately bring the athletes back to Earth Cenderawasih.

The reason is, this is done to anticipate the closure of sports access as well as entrances and exits. In addition, a number of sports are also scheduled to undergo test events in August and September at the XX National Sports Week (PON) venue.

“Athletes will be sent home. Soon, all our athletes will withdraw, because the venues there will be closed. We will withdraw our athletes who try out all over Java, as soon as possible," said Kenius, Wednesday (7/7/21) yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Board of the Indonesian Fencing Association (IKASI) Papua is also considering repatriating their athletes who are currently in Bogor Regency, West Java.

The Chairperson of the Papua IKASI Daily, Henry Muabuay, said that his party would immediately withdraw its athletes to Papua in the near future considering the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic which is increasing again in Java.

"Looking at the PPKM situation in Indonesia, we from the IKASI Pengprov hope that in the next few weeks our athletes will be able to return. So that our athletes can focus on training in Jayapura and we can send them for a test event in Merauke until the implementation of the PON. Because since August 2019 they have been outside. About 1 year 7 months, we had a meeting to plan to withdraw them," he said.

Henry also emphasized that all of his athletes had undergone the first and second stages of vaccination without any problems. He stated that the fencing team was very ready to look at XX PON.

"We have done the vaccination for all athletes. It's the second stage. Just come back. Praise God, everything is safe and there are no problems," he explained.
