Sugapa Papua Police Shot by KKB, Two People Arrested

The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) is said to have opened fire on the Sugapa Police Station, Intan Kaya Regency, Papua on Thursday (19/11) morning.
The Head of the General Information Section (Kabagpenum) of the National Police Kombes Ahmad Ramadhan said that at least four separatist groups fired at the police station.

"The shooting at the Sugapa Police Sector by KKB came from the direction of the Telkomsel Tower," Ramadhan told reporters, Friday (11/19).

He stated that there were no victims in the shooting incident at the sector-level police headquarters.

Ramadhan said that the police then carried out a sweep and search for the perpetrators using drones. As a result, it was found that five people suspected of being the perpetrators were passing by carrying long-barreled firearms.

"The results of the search through drone equipment showed that five people carrying three long-barreled firearms walked and gathered around a green house near Honai under the Telkomsel Bilogai tower," he explained.

From the results of the development, the police then arrested two people with the initials OJ (20) and NT (18) who were allegedly related to the incident. However, he said, the two people were not the five people caught on camera carrying guns.

However, based on the results of the investigation and examination, it turns out that the two people are not related to the separatist group which is now labeled as terrorists by the government.

"Tragging was carried out by the Nemangkawi Task Force, there is no connection with the KKB. So the plan is for both of them to be sent home," he explained.

Previously, the TNI said that yesterday's gunfight occurred for almost three hours from 08.30 to 10.50 WIT. However, he has not been able to provide further details regarding the trigger for the exchange of fire between the apparatus and the separatist group.

Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih Lieutenant Colonel Arm Reza Nur Patria stated that there were no casualties from elements of the TNI or Polri in the gun battle.

"In the shootout, there were no casualties from the Indonesian National Police Task Force," said Reza when confirmed, Friday (11/19).

He denied that the West Papua Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM) claimed to have shot dead a number of military officers in the gun battle that took place yesterday.
