BPDASHL Memberamo Papua introduces processed mangroves in the form of tea bags



The Center for Watershed Management and Protected Forests (BPDASHL) Memberamo, Papua, introduced a processed product of mangrove leaves from the achantus type of mangrove in the form of tea bags.
 
Head of BPDASHL Memberamo Mahendro Harjianto in a press release in Jayapura, Thursday, said the Achantus leaf teabags came from the Pigapu Forest Farmers Group (KTH) under the guidance of the Mimika Environmental and Forestry Service (CDLHK) Branch. Cbery Tourism Awareness Guided by the Papua Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA).
 
"Achantus teabags are teas made from Achantus species, a type of mangrove that is often found in coastal areas, where the leaves have health benefits, one of which can treat rheumatism," he said.
 
According to Mahendro, in addition to tea products, BPDASHL Memberamo also introduced pedada fruit juice (Sonneratia casiolaris) namely Mangue Grove.
 
"Pedada juice which has a sour, sweet, fresh taste, a combination of pedada fruit juice and sugar and contains vitamins B and C which are good for health," he said.
 
He explained that the community's efforts to process mangrove products need to be supported as an effort to empower coastal communities through their existing potential.
 
"Management of mangrove forests, apart from forest and land rehabilitation activities, also empowers the surrounding community," he said.
 
He added that by doing so, it is hoped that the mangrove forest can be maintained, and the community will prosper.
 
Previously, BPDASHL Memberamo participated in the Mangrove Week 2021 activity at the Jakarta Convention Center which was held by the Peatland Restoration Agency and
Mangroves (BRGM) on 20-22 December 2021.
 
The Mangrove Week 2021 activity aims to inform the implementation of BRGM's mangrove rehabilitation acceleration activities, increase synergy and communication with relevant ministries and institutions, as well as raise awareness for the community about the importance of maintaining mangrove ecosystems.
 
The series of Mangrove Week 2021 activities are exhibitions of processed mangrove products from the archipelago, talk shows, competitions, and art and cultural performances.
 
Present at this event were the deputy chairman of Commission IV DPR RI, the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Director General of PDASRH, Director General of KSDAE, BRGM Leaders and invited guests.
 
At the Mangrove Week 2021 event, mangrove processed products from various regions were exhibited, including mangrove tea, mangrove soy sauce, mangrove sticks, mangrove batik motifs, mangrove natural dyes, mangrove soap and others made from mangroves.
