Impact of Separatist Terror, Papuans Celebrate Christmas in Refugees

The acts of terror and security disturbances by the Papuan Separatist and Terrorist Group (KSTP) have made the security conflict in Papua never ending.

As a result, many residents in the villages fled to seek security protection. As a result, on Christmas day, there will still be many Papuans who will celebrate Christmas in the refugee camps this year.

The President of the Gospel Church in Indonesia or GIDI, Reverend Dorman Wandikbo, said that several areas where residents were displaced include Yahukimo Regency, Nduga Regency, and Puncak Regency. They fled to another safe area. Some of them even choose to live in the forest.

“Our brothers and sisters in the Yahukimo District in Suru-Suru (District). Then in the Nduga Regency area, they still have refugees. Then in (District) Ilaga (Peak Regency) there are still refugees. They don't enjoy Christmas. They are in the forest. We can enjoy this Christmas atmosphere here, but our brothers and sisters in other districts don't enjoy what we enjoy here," said Dorman Wandikbo, Wednesday, December 22, 2021.

The President of GIDI, Rev. Dorman Wandikbo, asked all parties to create a peaceful atmosphere. This is so that residents throughout Papua can celebrate and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in peace.

He also reminded various parties, especially armed groups, not to take actions that could create security disturbances and disturb residents.

He emphasized that there should be no shootings during Christmas in Papua. In addition, he asked that there should be no burning of public facilities. Residents' houses or anything that can trigger tension.
