WGAB NGO Asks BPK and KPK to Immediately Investigate Corruption in Papua

Requests for serious corruption cases in Papua still occur and come from various groups, including traditional, religious and Papuan leaders. Recently, the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Wadah Generasi Anak Bangsa (WGAB) of Papua Province has also requested that the alleged cases that harm the Papuan people be thoroughly investigated. The condition of the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, who is sick, is considered to be one of the causes of the running of the government is not optimal.

The chairman of WGAB Papua, Yerry Basri Mak, in his release to the media, asked related parties, both the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia Representative for Papua, and the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to step in and firmly investigate these allegations. Because according to him, the disclosure of corruption cases in Papua is still quite slow.

"I see that law enforcement in Papua for corruption is not adequate, why? Because there are so many violations of law in Papua, especially corruption that has not been touched," Yerry said, Sunday (12/12) afternoon.

"I also see that the condition of the Governor of Papua who is sick is being used by certain parties, there are elements in the governor's circle who instigate and provoke the governor so that they often take wrong policies," he continued.

It was emphasized that this condition also resulted in fraud in several things that were detrimental to the state. However, he said, the urgency points were related to the use of Papua Special Autonomy funds, PON XX Papua and Peparnas XVI Papua. According to him, these big events with very large budgets are suspected to have been corrupted.

“Broadly speaking, I ask the BPK to audit the Special Autonomy Fund and PON Fund and Peparnas funds. In the audit and surely later we will find the irregularities. CPC Don't be afraid of audits. The KPK must step in again, this is a big fund," he said.

According to him, there are several indications of budget abuse that are already visible on the surface, both Otsus and PON, while Peparnas also needs to be audited as a form of transparency. Otsus, in fact, there are still many areas in Papua that have failed to develop, the spirit of Otsus for the welfare of the people has not been touched, and Papuan officials have corrupted it.

He assessed that the same with village funds was also corrupted and diverted for other interests, not for the community. While the PON funds, it is an indication that there are still many unpaid honorariums, both for health, media and drivers.

“There were many things that stood out for yesterday's PON was the stale food and payment of honorariums that had not yet been paid for medical, media and drivers. This is big money, not a little, because they don't get paid. This is a strong indication that the KPK must intervene, these officials in Papua are examined because the indications are clear,” he said.

He also mentioned Papuan officials who splurge to the capital city of Jakarta, or other places just to spend money. Where is his instinct, having fun under the suffering of his people.

"The welfare of your people first, what do they ask for, do you go, do you go to school, do you have health, this must be considered. Don't let them scream because you are regional leaders who seem to only take care of their own pleasure, this is not true," he said.
