Yapen Ready to Export Seaweed, Farmers' Economy Will Improve
The Marine and Fisheries Service of the Yapen Islands Regency is committed to boosting seaweed production from Sarwandori Village.
This step follows the seaweed commodity which has contributed high economic value both for domestic economic growth and for export commodities.
“Since last year we have been working hard to fix seaweed planting, starting from farmers to relations for production. We hope that tens of tons of seaweed for export will be carried out," said the Head of the Yapen Islands DKP, Daniel Reba, Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
Daniel believes that the export cooperation with PT Indonusa Algaemas Prima Malang and PT Yapen Mandiri Sejahtera will go well. Plus the provision of training and assistance that has been given to seaweed farmers.
The training and assistance referred to include cooperative management, cultivation and processing techniques, marketing, market access expansion, export licensing, certification and preparation of financial reports.
"We are optimistic that by producing export-standard products, the products will have added value for seaweed farmers in Sarwandori Village, so we hope that the community will feel an increase in welfare and the economy," said Daniel.
The Yapen Archipelago DKP noted that 5,220 m2 of seaweed land had been used with the percentage of the population of Sarwandori Village as seaweed farmers of 37.2 percent.
"Indeed, 46.8 percent (of the population) are fishermen and 37.2 percent are farmers, but we believe that with assistance to human resources (HR) and we always control the progress of this seaweed, our export target will be achieved," said Daniel.
