Jayapura City Government adds 430 table units at Pasar Baru Youtefa
The City Government (Pemkot) of Jayapura, Papua, through the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises (Disperindagkop and UKM) will add 430 units of tables at Pasar Baru Youtefa.
"This table will be filled by 200 traders who sell at the new Youtefa market terminal, and the rest from the old Youtefa market," said the Head of Industry and Trade and Industry and SMEs of Jayapura City, Robert LN Awi, in Jayapura, Thursday (3/3/2022).
Awi said that the addition of selling tables at the market, whose construction cost a budget of Rp. 18 billion, was carried out in order to revive buying and selling activities as well as increase the income of traders because more buyers were arriving.
“The tables will be filled by traders who hold their wares on the ground or stalls. We also disciplined the lapak traders so that they all sell at the table. This year, the budget has been prepared," said Awi.
Awi said that the traders who sell in the old market of Youtefa are no longer feasible, because when it rains it always floods and some traders sell under the hot sun.
“I hope that traders will move to new markets and sell in an orderly manner so that the market is not chaotic. We built this market to improve the economy of traders. I also urge traders to maintain cleanliness and safety," said Awi.
Awi added that the old Youtefa market is still being used because there are still stall traders such as clothing, household appliances, electronics, and handicrafts vendors and stalls (chicken, eggs, tofu and tempeh, and vegetables).
“This year we moved only part of it to fill the table that we will build. Youtefa's new market is very representative, which is safe from flooding and not too hot and clean," said Awi.
Deputy Mayor of Jayapura, Rustan Saru, said that socialization and data collection for traders should be carried out properly so that there will be no problems when traders start occupying the sales tables that have been prepared.
"Don't let misunderstandings cause a commotion so that traders don't want to sell in the new market. This must be done properly in order to provide convenience to traders who carry out buying and selling activities," said Rustan.
Rustan said that the new Youtefa market was built because of the Jayapura City Government's concern for the economic improvement of traders so that a suitable market was presented to be a place for buying and selling.
“I hope that traders will occupy the tables that have been prepared, no longer selling outside the market or selling merchandise on the ground with sacks or tarpaulins. There is already a good market, so it must be put to good use,” said Rustan.
