The Jayapura City Government is aggressively vaccinating the elderly so that they go down to PPKM Level 2
The City Government (Pemkot) of Jayapura, Papua, is aggressively vaccinating the elderly (elderly) so that they come down to implementing community activity restrictions or PPKM Level 2 during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Vaccination for the elderly is still below 50 percent, so it becomes an obstacle to lower the level. We will continue to boost our achievements so that it is mandatory for the elderly to get vaccinated," said Deputy Mayor of Jayapura, Rustan Saru, at the Jayapura Mayor's Office, Wednesday (30/3/2032).
Rustan said, in addition to pursuing targets, vaccination of the elderly is considered very important in order to increase the body's immunity because it is vulnerable to being exposed to Covid-19, so that they are healthy, safe, and comfortable doing activities.
"We encourage all agencies and religious leaders, community leaders to invite the elderly to vaccinate so that the elderly vaccination percentage will increase so that residents in Jayapura City can actually form mass immunity to speed up breaking the spread of Covid-19," said Rustan.
Rustan asked children to accompany their elderly parents, especially those who are required to get vaccinated and do not have comorbidities to visit vaccination centers, either in health centers, hospitals, or mass vaccination services.
"This is for the good of all of us. We don't know how long we will live side by side with Covid-19, but we must be vigilant and careful and of course by fortifying ourselves with vaccines and still complying with health protocols to be safe and exposed to Covid-19," said Rustan.
Head of the Jayapura City Health Office, Ni Nyoman Sri Antari, said the first stage of vaccination for the elderly had reached 33.80 percent or 6,148 people, the second stage of vaccination was 26.95 percent or 4,902 people, and the third stage of vaccination was 2.94 percent or 534 people.
“Vaccination is the main key to protect yourself and those closest to you from the dangers of Covid-19. Vaccination for the elderly is also an assessment indicator or assessment for the leveling or decreasing of our PPKM," said Antari.
Antari said that the health problem to be vaccinated was an obstacle in achieving the target in the implementation of vaccination. Meanwhile, the Covid-19 Handling Task Force received quite high enthusiasm for the elderly who wanted to be vaccinated.
“For the elderly, they actually want to, there's only a medical checkup before being vaccinated, some can't because of [high] blood pressure and so on, and it can't be forced. So, it's not because they don't want to be vaccinated,” said Antari.
