MUI Papua: Strict Procedures, Tarawih Prayers at Mosques Can Be Done

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Papua Province has ensured that this year Muslims on the ground can perform the Tarawih prayers in congregation in mosques or prayer rooms by implementing strict health protocols.

The chairman of the Papuan MUI, Saiful Islam Al Payage, said that after two years of the pandemic, Muslims in Indonesia, especially in Papua, did not perform the tarawih prayers as they should.

"Finally this year we can perform the tarawih prayers together. Let's welcome this situation happily, along with the COVID-19 number in Papua starting to decline," he explained.

He invited Muslims in Papua to be happy to welcome Ramadan and carry out fasting as well as possible.

"Alhamdulillah, this year fasting can be carried out as it should be, so that Muslims in droves can carry out the white prayer. Read more of the Koran, give alms and other worship, because Allah SWT multiplies the reward in the holy month," he said.

Tarawih Prayer in the Middle of COVID-19

Deputy Mayor of Jayapura, Rustan Saru ensured that Muslims in Jayapura City could perform the tarwih prayer in congregation.

"This year's tarawih prayer, the ranks can be closer compared to the previous year's tarawih prayer. As long as you still wear a mask," he explained.

Rustan explained that Jayapura City was preparing to move towards the COVID-19 green zone.

"The record of achieving vaccination for the elderly is still low, because it is a requirement for an area to lower the PPKM level," he explained.

Rustan asked the mosque management to provide health protocol facilities to reduce the risk of being exposed to COVID-19.
