Papuan Police Chief: KKB burned down residents' houses in Ilaga

The Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri admitted that the armed criminal group (KKB) had again set fire to the houses of residents around Ilaga, Puncak Regency.

The arson was allegedly carried out because one of his colleagues was killed while trying to be arrested by the authorities.

"It is true that after the KKB member, Ali Teu Kogoya, was shot dead on Sunday (3/4), KKB was reported to have set fire to residents' houses," he said in Jayapura, Thursday night.

He said from reports he received since Tuesday (5/4) it was recorded that 16 houses had been burned down by KKB members around Ilaga.

As a result of the arson, he said, residents fled to places that were considered safe, including the Puncak Police Headquarters in Ilaga.

So far there have been no reports of fatalities, but his party asks members to always be vigilant and not be provoked by the actions taken by the KKB, he explained.

"KKB continues to try to lure members and when we are weak they will attack and seize weapons and ammunition," he said.

Ali Kogoya, who is a member of the Koyawage KKB, carried a rifle with a barrel type FN 46 AK, serial number EA 1520077 which contained two bullets in the magazine.

The FN firearms brought by Ali Kogoya came from Undius Kogoya who is currently joining Kelenak Telenggen in Ilaga, Puncak Regency.
