Papuan Students in Banjarmasin Support Expansion
A number of Papuan students who are currently studying at Sari Mulia University (UNISM) Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan Province, held a declaration to support the establishment of a new autonomous region in their homeland.
Students and students from various majors, united to express their determination, with the hope that the realization of the new area can increase progress and prosperity, both in terms of health, economy, education, and infrastructure.
Yoseph ST Samkakai, one of the Papuan students of UNISM Nursing Study Program, said that the success of the expansion will expand employment opportunities.
"More than that, the most important thing for the next generation is the economic side. The reason is that so far, many young Papuan generations have not been able to find work,” he said after the declaration.
Another student, Farida Anselma Mogan, said the same thing. He explained that the mainland of Papua is known to be quite extensive, but so far it only has two provinces, namely Papua and West Papua.
"With this, at least later we can accelerate development so that Papua is more prosperous, advanced and victorious," he said.
It is known that the plan for the addition of the province is based on the stipulation of three bills related to the expansion of the region in Papua, in the plenary meeting of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia.
The three bills are about the establishment of the provinces of South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Central Mountains.
