The Meepago Indigenous Community Supports the Expansion of the Papua Region
A number of residents of Mimika Regency held an action to rally support for the establishment of a new autonomous region (DOB) for Central Papua from Timika City to the Mimika Regent's Office, Wednesday (13/4/2022). They also collect community signatures as a form of support.
The Chief Coordinator of Declaration Action, Karel Kum said, there were 18 representatives from every ethnic group in Timika who participated in this declaration. Each representative from the tribe or harmony then gave a statement of support for the establishment of the Central Papua Province.
"This action to take to the streets is a form of support for the government for the formation of the new autonomous regions of Central Papua with its capital in Timika," Karel said in a written statement, Thursday (14/4/2022).
According to Karel, the Amungme and Kamoro tribes said they accepted that the capital city of Central Papua Province was placed in Timika. He asked all parties to support and accept this plan.
"We accept the province of Central Papua, in Timika the price is fixed. Anyone who refuses will be against the rules," he said.
There are 3 points of the United Mimika Declaration, namely:
1) Support efforts to resolve conflicts in Papua in a dignified manner for the sake of achieving a Peaceful Papua.
2) Encouraging the resolution of the Papua problem by reconciliation and restitution towards a safe Papua.
3) Support the implementation of the Special Autonomy Law number 2 of 2021 and the plan for the expansion of new autonomous regions towards a peaceful, secure and prosperous Papua.
