Deputy Regent: Tambrauw tourism development is progressing
The Mayor of Tambrauw Regent, West Papua, Mesak Metusala Yekwam said the development of the tourism sector in the area was progressing both in terms of infrastructure and promotion.
"The incessant development of tourism in Tambrauw Regency began in 2018 but the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of 2019 became a major obstacle because the development budget was mostly used to handle the pandemic," Mesak Deputy Regent Metusala Yekwam said in Tambrauw, Thursday.
He said that despite many obstacles and shortcomings, the development of the tourism sector during his leadership and the Regent Gabriel Asem, which will end on May 22, 2022, has made progress.
According to him, the development of the tourism sector in Tambrauw Regency is progressing and it can be said that it has reached 50 percent. The development of basic infrastructure in each tourist destination has been put in place with the hope that it will be improved by the next leader.
Tambrauw Regency is a conservation area that has extraordinary natural potential to attract many tourists, both domestic and foreign.
It is said that many programs have been carried out, especially the construction of supporting facilities in tourist destinations and promotion to the international level.
"However, these efforts have not been maximized, especially with the corona virus outbreak that has hit Indonesia and even the world when Tambrauw Regency is intensively developing the tourism sector," he said.
He hopes that the tourism development program that has been carried out can be continued by the next leader in order to further advance the economy of the community, especially those engaged in tourism.
