MRP Chair Called Misuse of Position Authority and Conduct Internal Divisions

Member of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) Dorince Mehue criticized MRP Chairman Timothy Murib's statement regarding the new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua.

He considered that Timothy's statement that the Palace was carrying out 'political divisions' by passing the agenda for the formation of new autonomous regions or regional expansion in Papua, was a wrong statement and violated the ethics of public officials.
 
Dorince said that Timothy had actually divided the MRP internally.

"So far, the Chair of the MRP has never carried out an institutional mechanism through a plenary meeting attended by all members of the MRP to discuss the rejection of Law No. 2 of 2021 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua which is being sued at the Constitutional Court and the rejection of the Papua New Guinea," said Dorince as quoted from his statement, Wednesday (25/5/2022).

"So actually the one who did the division within the MRP institution was the MRP chairman himself," he said.

Regarding President Joko Widodo's invitation to a number of MRP representatives at the Bogor Palace, West Java on Friday (20/5/2022), Dorince considered it the President's prerogative to hear and invite every citizen.

"The president has the prerogative to hear and invite every citizen, including us, six Papuan MRP and four West Papuan MRP members who were officially invited by President Jokowi to the Bogor Palace on 20 May 2022," explained Dorince.
 
He also considered that Timothy should be wise, fair, and balanced in accepting the different aspirations of indigenous Papuans, both supporting and rejecting the Papua New Guinea.

Dorince also assessed that Timothy had committed a violation of office.

The reason is that Timothy, according to Dorince, has also changed the MRP Rules for certain purposes without consulting the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He asked the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian to summon the leadership of the MRP and all members of the MRP to clarify the violations of office committed against PP 54 of 2004 junto PP 64 of 2008 concerning the Papuan People's Assembly.

"It's very clear that the MRP Chair blames the authority of his position for acting in the name of the MRP institution to carry the interests of certain groups," concluded Dorince.
 
Previously, the Chairman of the MRP, Timothy Murib, said that the Palace carried out a divisive politics because it invited several members of the MRP without going through a mechanism.

Without official permission from the institution, the members of the MRP came to the Bogor Palace and agreed to the Special Autonomy Law and regional expansion, two issues that had been against the MRP's stance.

"This is an act of forgery by the state. We clarified it internally with our friends who went to the Palace, they came back, they said it was at the invitation of the President," said Timothy.

"The perpetrators of this division are the central government, in this case the relevant ministries and Mr. President. So, the central government should introspect, why do we (indigenous Papuans) continue to be under violence," he said.
