Discussion Formasu and KAMMI: DOB concrete steps for the welfare of Papua

The New Autonomous Region is an important way to develop Papua, which is based on the spirit of government cooperation and involves the youth.

This is one of the conclusion points of the discussion "The Role of Youth in Building Socio-Cultural Resilience and Development on the Earth of Cendrawasih" which was held by the North Sumatran Student People's Forum in collaboration with the Indonesian Muslim Student Action Unit (KAMMI) Medan, at the BLPP Agriculture Hall of Medan City, Friday (10/10). /6/2022).

The hearing was attended by hundreds of participants from the Papuan Student Association (IMP), KAMMI cadres and various campus representatives in the city of Medan.

While the speakers included the Head of the USU FISIP Political Science Department, Indra Fauzan, USU Economics doctoral student from Papua Ince Weya, Kesbangpol Secretary Drs Alfian Hutahuruk and North Sumatra DPRD member Hendro Susanto who attended virtually.

Indra Fauzan explained that the government's program for development in Papua has been very good. The New Autonomous Region (DOB) is one of the development paths in Papua for the welfare of many people.

"The essence of development is welfare, of course without neglecting ancestral values and traditions that have been very attached to the Papuan people," he said.

On the other hand, according to him, youth should be able to create opportunities for themselves. Currently, not a few Papuan youths are making Indonesia proud in the international arena, both in the fields of education and culture.

They are part of Indonesia's productive age which is currently very large. This has great potential to contribute to development.

"The productive age in this country is no joke, 2045 is Indonesia's prosperity, Indonesian youth must be able to welcome and be involved in it," he said.

Meanwhile, North Sumatra DPRD member Hendro Susanto said youth must build ideology, culture, social and promote tolerance in order to advance the region for the better. This is important in Papua, which is the prima donna of the world.

"Earth of Cendrawasih is a prima donna in the international world. The wealth of Papua's forests to Freeport continues to attract attention. And talking about development and welfare is the government's main task, but it is obligatory for us to support government programs while monitoring in good and elegant ways, " he said.

Meanwhile, Ince Weya, who is a USU doctoral student in Economics from Papua, emphasized the importance of youth's role in socio-cultural resilience. Currently, development in Papua has made a lot of progress, marked by the easier access to them. He agreed that DOB is a concrete step for the welfare of Papua.

"Although it is possible there are pros and cons related to this," he said.

The Secretary of Kesbangpol, Alfian Hutahuruk, said that young people must love their homeland, Indonesia, which is rich in culinary natural resources and beautiful tourist attractions, must be maintained because the millennial generation in the future until 2045 will be the main actors in
Indonesian development.

"Love for this country must continue to be planted and instilled in our hearts, especially our young generation. Personally I urge and support the programs of the central and local governments, Papuan welfare is the most understanding of Papuans. Let's get involved in building this nation by encouraging and support central and local government programs," he concluded.
