Support DOB, Regent of Yapen: This is purely for the welfare of the Papuan people

The Regent of Yapen Islands, Tonny Tesar, stated that he fully supports the government's plan to establish a New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua.

"We see that this new autonomous region is related to the acceleration of development and the welfare of the Papuan people, and this must be implemented," said Tonny Tesar after attending the Regional Working Meeting of Regents and Mayors throughout the Papua Province which was held at the Suni Hotel, Jalan Baru Pasar Lama Abepura, Jayapura, Papua Province, Wednesday (15/6/2022) afternoon.
 
According to him, this support is absolutely given because the aim of the Papua New Guinea is purely to improve the welfare of the people on Earth of Cenderawasih.

"But apart from the welfare of the people, the issue of accelerating development in Papua is also one that we want to accelerate and this expansion to be carried out in accordance with the law," he said.

Then about the budget, Tonny said, don't question it, because it's the central government's business which will be distributed later.

"It's not that the division keeps looking for its own money, but the state is trying to get the results and resources that exist in Papua. We just enjoy it," he explained.

Tony also gave an example of a number of provinces in Indonesia. For example, on the island of Java, there are several provinces. Even though the area is smaller than Papua.

Then they use the APBN and APBD at least Rp. 40 trillion. Meanwhile, for DKI alone, it is almost Rp. 100 trillion. This number is greater than Papua, which is only around 17 or 18 trillion annually.

"Why, because we only have 2, namely the provinces of Papua and West Papua. So what we use is only IDR 35 trillion with the existing amount, how can we catch up with the island of Java to accelerate development, "he explained.

Besides that, according to Toni, there is no need to think about Regional Original Revenue (PAD). Because what needs to be done is how to provide space for the community so that they can get good service, and be more prosperous.

Therefore, the principle of the Papua New Guinea is to follow the policy of the central government, and all the pros and cons of support will be reviewed.

"The governor has also given a statement today that he pushed for the expansion first, 7 customary areas were pushed at once. So we follow it, hopefully this expansion is in line with expectations to accelerate development and prosper the community," he explained.
