Various competitions enliven the arts and cultural festival held by indigenous peoples in North Misool District, Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua Province, from Tuesday (28/6) to Wednesday.
The arts and culture festival which took place in Salafen Village, North Misool District, included drumming, arrow, rowing and tug of war competitions.
Traditionally decorated boats, various traditional dances, and conservation songs were also performed at the festival, which was organized with the support of the Maya Tribal Council, the North Misool Matbat Customary Council, the Nusantara Nature Conservation Foundation, and the Papuan Nazareth Foundation.
The chairman of the Mayan Customary Council, Kris Thebu, previously said that the arts and culture festival was an event to unite the Matbat indigenous people in five villages in North Misool, namely Salafen, Waigama, Aduwey, Solal, and Atkari.
The organization of an arts and cultural festival in North Misool is also aimed at supporting the establishment of a North Misool conservation area.
Kris said that the arts and culture festival would be followed by a public consultation on the conservation area zoning plan in the Misool waters, northern Raja Ampat Regency.
