Women are encouraged to be actively involved in the democratic process

The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of Papua Province encourages women in Papua to be actively involved in the democratic process. This is an effort to realize women's equality in the right to vote and be elected.

A member of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of Papua Province, Ronald Manoach, said that many Papuan women's potentials are still buried or untouched. Therefore, it is important that all parties encourage women to be active and involved in the democratic process.
 
"Women, being passive in politics and the democratic process is very unfortunate, because the potential of Papuan women is very large," said Ronald at the Socialization of Women's Equality in the Right to Be Elected and Voted held by the Papua Bawaslu in Jayapura City, Tuesday (26/7). .
 
She also believes that if the potential of women in Papua can be explored through the collaboration of various parties, then the human resources in the democratic process, be it organizers, politicians, representatives of the people and government, can be filled by great women.

"Through this discussion, Bawaslu hopes to be able to stimulate and open up space for women to be actively involved both as voters but also as candidates to be elected," he said.

She hopes that in 2024 there will be no more fuss over women's issues, and an important note for the Bawaslu and KPU ranks is the hope of women in politics with a patriarchal culture.

"Where there is a voice for them, it's just that they don't deserve to be in politics as a leader, so that vote is removed," he said.
 
Meanwhile, the Head of PUGPPKB Papua Province Adeltje Vs Pekade suggested that the Socialization of Women's Equality in the Right to be Elected and Voted held by the Papua Bawaslu should not only be done now, but should continue.

“Not just now, but must continue, so that in the end it will be seen after this activity what is the target. Community participation, especially women, which has been so far away will appear and will be seen, so that there is equality in politics," he said.
