Cultivating a sense of nationalism for the young generation of Papuan children



The Biak Numfor Regency Government, Papua continues to strive to foster the spirit of nationalism among young Papuans by organizing various competitions to welcome the celebration of the 77th Independence Proclamation of the Republic of Indonesia.

Participating in the competition for the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia for Papuan youths aims to fill development in Papua as an integral part of the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

Meanwhile, the other purpose of holding various competitions on August 17th is to provide a deep meaning about the importance of the spirit of down-to-earth nationalism among the younger generation of Papua.

Even with various competitions on August 17 every year, it is hoped that it can increase the awareness of young Papuans to care for and love the existence of the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke.

The excitement of the 17 August competition held by the Biak Numfor Regency Government has begun to be felt by residents in various villages/villages to districts/districts.

The installation of red and white flags and banners has been encouraged to be installed at government offices, TNI/Polri, BUMN/BUMD, private companies to the homes of Biak residents.

From the various competitions held by the Biak Regency Government, including a road carnival competition for students from the PAUD / Kindergarten level to tertiary institutions.

Likewise, the walking competition, which attracts a lot of interest from young people to adults, has become a prestigious performance because it is watched by tens of thousands of people in Biak Numfor Regency.

Meanwhile, other event activities that are also an attraction for the Papuan millennial generation in Biak Numfor district are eating 25,000 chicken eggs together on August 1, 2022.

"Eating with chicken eggs for Biak children is a government program to prevent stunting and fulfill student nutrition," said Biak Regent Numfor Herry Ario Naap in Biak.

He admits that the young generation of Papua is an asset of the Indonesian nation so that their nutritional needs must be met properly from the time they are in their mother's womb.

Regent Herry Naap hopes that by providing nutrition and vitamins regularly to children, they can make Biak children healthy, intelligent and with an insight into Nationalism.

"This is our duty with all ranks of the Biak Numfor Regency Government, the TNI / Polri and other stakeholders," he said.

As a trusted regional leader, according to Regent Herry Naap, the spirit of nationalism to care for and protect the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia must be grounded among young Papuans.

"I continue to promote nationalism and the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation to build a religious and cultural Biak," he said.

Global challenge

The Biak customary commander, Yosep Daud Korwa, assessed that instilling the values of tolerance and nationalism among Biak youths, it is a joint obligation of all elements of the citizens and the ranks of the Biak Numfor Regency Government.

Korwa mentioned that the Indonesian nation as a large country and spread from Sabang to Merauke cannot avoid the challenges of globalization such as the negative influence of foreign cultures.

However, by adhering to Pancasila, according to Korwa, as the guiding principle, the Indonesian nation's view of life will be able to maintain its identity and existence.

"One of the tips for the young Papuan generation to be resilient in facing change is to maintain the spirit of nationalism since childhood," said the former member of the Biak DPRD.

By instilling the spirit of Nationalism in Biak youth, according to Korwa, it will make them more resilient to the negative influences and moral changes that are rampant in the era of globalization.

"So, by strengthening nationalism and Pancasila education ethics, it is hoped that the younger generation of Papua will be better prepared to face globalization and maintain the national identity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

Korwa hopes that at the moment of commemorating various events to welcome the celebration of the 77th Indonesian Independence Proclamation, it will strengthen the national and cultural values that characterize the Indonesian nation.

"Such as mutual cooperation, friendship, hospitality in the community are basic privileges that can make individual Papuan youths to love and preserve their own nation's culture," he said.

To increase the spirit of nationalism for Biak youth, Korwa continued, the Biak Regency government together with other stakeholders have an important role to play in maintaining Indonesian cultural values in a harmonious and peaceful society.

"I hope that the momentum in August with the holding of various competitions on August 17 will add to the national insight of the Biak youths because we are a big nation to take care of the big house of the Republic of Indonesia," he added.

Korwa hopes that on the momentum of the commemoration of the 77th Indonesian Independence Proclamation on August 17, 2022, the central government of President Joko Widodo's administration will pay attention to the Saereri customary territory in North Papua.

Korwa said the Saereri customary area was very important and strategic because it was bordered by countries in the Pacific islands so it needed to be split into a new autonomous region.

"This is the central government's homework to see the Saereri customary area as an asset of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia so that it will soon be expanded into a new autonomous region of North Papua Province," hoped the traditional commander of Saereri Korwa.

Biak Numfor Regency, Papua has introduced various competitions to enliven the commemoration of the 77th Independence Proclamation of the Republic of Indonesia.

"There are many competitions organized by the Committee for the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in Biak Numfor Regency," said the Chairman of the RI Anniversary committee who is also Assistant 1 to the Biak Regional Secretary Mahasunu.

He admitted that the target of the various competitions held on August 17 was to increase the spirit of nationalism for the people of Biak Numfor in order to fill the development in the land of Papua.

The August 17 competitions included a street carnival competition for kindergarten and university students, walking competitions, Nusantara parade, Yospan street dance, blood donation, entertainment parties, people and the raising of the red and white flag on the commemoration of the 77th Independence Day celebrations. RI.

To maintain and care for the value of tolerance, religious harmony, national insight and the spirit of Nationalism for the younger generation of Papua, it is our collective duty to maintain the existence of the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke.
