KSP Warns KKB to Stop Terror Actions in Papua



The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) has warned the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua to immediately stop these inhumane brutal acts. Moreover, these crimes are directed at civil society, public service facilities, health and education facilities.

"The KKB must immediately stop this act which has absolutely no sense of humanity. Law enforcement officers must act and enforce the law firmly and thoroughly for the series of KKB terror acts," said Jaleswari Pramodhawardani as Deputy V of KSP for Political, Legal, Security and Human Rights .
 
The last incident carried out by KKB was the attack and burning of a number of public service facilities such as Puskesmas, housing for health workers (nakes), elementary and junior high schools, housing for teachers and village halls. This attack occurred on Tuesday (14/9) in Kiwirok District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua.

The day before, on Monday (13/9), KKB also attacked and burned the Bank Papua Cash Office, the Market, the Health Center, and the Inpres Elementary School in Kiwirok.

The series of disturbing and fearful actions in the community have affected at least 11 health workers. Of these, some were injured, some died and some were declared missing.

The latest news received by KSP stated that one of the victims who died was nurse Gabriella Meilani (22). Meanwhile, another health worker who has not been found is Gerald Sokoy (28).

"The Presidential Staff Office expresses its deepest condolences for the death of a humanitarian hero such as Ms. Gabriella Meilani, and the loss of Mr. Gerald Sokoy who has dedicated his life to serving the people of remote communities in Papua," Jaleswari continued.

He also said that the violence by the KKB was a serious crime against Papuans that must be stopped immediately. Moreover, he regrets the victims of health workers whose presence is urgently needed in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in remote areas in Papua.

Furthermore, Jaleswari explained that the acts of violence perpetrated by KKB against health workers constituted a serious violation of Law no. 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights, Law no. 36 of 2009 concerning Health, Law no. 29 of 2004 concerning Medical Practice, Law no. 38 of 2014 concerning Nursing, Law no. 44 of 2009 on Hospitals, and Law no. 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine.
