Papua Provincial Government guarantees food availability in the dry season
The Papua Provincial Government through the local Agriculture and Food Service ensures the availability of food during the dry season on Cenderawasih Earth.
The head of the Papua Province Agriculture and Food Service, Semuel Siriwa in Jayapura, Wednesday, said this was based on the results of the calculation of the Papua Province's strategic food balance in June 2022.
"In the position of June 2022, the availability of rice is 62,776.97 tons, while the demand for 2,635.53 tons is still a surplus, as well as other commodities," he said.
According to Samuel, Papua has an unpredictable season even though it is called the dry season, but there are also some areas that experience the rainy season.
"Such as in mountainous areas, which are entering the rainy season, so that vegetables continue to produce well," he said.
He explained, however, that certain food commodities, such as shallots and garlic, were still imported from outside Papua.
"These two commodities are imported from three regions, namely Makassar, Surabaya and Manado to meet food needs in 29 regencies and cities in Papua," he said again.
He added that now his party is focusing on maintaining price stability so that when the religious holidays are approaching, commodities will remain stable.
