14 "Save Governor of Papua" Demonstrators Arrested, Police Seize Sharp Weapons to Fish Bombs

Police arrested 14 people suspected of participating in the 'Save Governor of Papua' demonstration. They were arrested for carrying sharp weapons.

The demonstration 'Save Governor of Papua', which was attended by hundreds of people, took place at Taman Imbi, Jayapura City, Papua, on Tuesday (20/9/2022) afternoon.

A total of 14 people were arrested while trying to join other demonstrators. They were found to be carrying dangerous items such as weapons.

"So the Jayapura City Police have secured seven people and the Jayapura Police have seven," said Papua Police Deputy Chief Brigadier General Ramdani Hidayat, in Jayapura, Wednesday (21/9/2022).

Of the 14 people, the police seized 14 sharp weapons, a fish bomb (dopis), a catapult, a motorcycle, a bag of nails and several bottles of alcoholic beverages.

Especially for the fish bomb, Ramdani said, the owner ran away when he was about to be caught.

"So when he wanted to be arrested he ran away from his motorbike, it turned out that there was a dose of dopis inside. We will look for him until we find him," he said.

According to him, the implementation of the 'Save Governor of Papua' demonstration went well.

The police were forced to conduct isolation because they found indications of elements who wanted to disrupt the situation by bringing sharp weapons to fish bombs.

According to him, the fish bombs that were successfully secured had a dangerous explosive element that could threaten the lives of many people.

"We are sure that this is not just one, there must be others. If it reaches the community, there will be many victims, we will continue to pursue those who brought it," said Ramdani.

Meanwhile Danrem 172/PWY Brigadier General Inf JO Sembiring hopes that demonstrations will no longer be carried out because the case experienced by Papua Governor Lukas Enembe has become the authority of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

He admitted that the aspirations of the masses submitted to the Papuan People's Representative Council (DPR) are not yet known where they will be taken.

"I phoned the chairman of the Papuan DPR yesterday, what will they do if they (the masses) demand, I can't intervene, he said, so why take action to the DPR? So in the future we hope there will be no mass action, but if there are aspirations we are ready to maintain security ," he said.

As previously reported, the demonstration by the Papuan People's Coalition in Taman Imbi, North Jayapura District, Jayapura City, Papua, took place in an orderly manner amid light rain, Tuesday (20/9/2022).

The crowd arrived at the scene of the action using trucks and rental vehicles.

With the theme 'Save Governor of Papua', the coordinators who led hundreds of people took turns giving speeches on trucks.

They consider the determination of the status of a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) against Papua Governor Lukas Enembe as a form of criminalization by those who want to take power in Papua.

In total there are two roads blocked by the police, namely the boundary between Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency, and the Dock V area of North Jayapura District.

In addition, hundreds of people continued to gather in Taman Imbi and staged demonstrations related to the legal case being faced by the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe.

"We carried out barriers because we found dangerous goods, such as badik we found six, so we did barriers," said Ramdani.
