After being questioned at the Papua Police Mobile Brigade Headquarters, the Regent of Mimika was brought to Jakarta

Investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) brought Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng to Jakarta using a commercial plane from Sentani Airport, Jayapura Regency, Papua, Thursday (8/9/2022) morning.

Eltinus Omaleng, who is a suspect in the corruption case in the construction of the Kingmi church at Mile 32, Mimika Regency, was forcibly picked up by the KPK at a hotel in Jayapura City, Wednesday (7/9/2022).

After that, Eltinus Omaleng was taken to the Papua Police Mobile Brigade Headquarters in Kotaraja, Jayapura, for examination.
 
"After being arrested by KPK investigators, then on Thursday morning Eltinus Omaleng was flown to Jakarta accompanied by members of the Papua Police Mobile Brigade Unit," said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes AM Kamal in a written statement, Thursday.

Kamal said, Eltinus Omaleng was flown at 08.55 WIT using Garuda GA 657 aircraft for detention and examination in the investigation process at the KPK office.

According to him, while being questioned at the Kotaraja Brimob Headquarters, Eltinus Omaleng acted cooperatively.
 
The situation in Mimika is conducive

Meanwhile, Kamal ensured that the situation in Mimika Regency was conducive after the arrest of Eltinus Omaleng.

"The situation for Kamtibmas in Papua after the arrest of Eltinus Omaleng is quite conducive, we must guard this situation together, especially for the Mimika Regency area," he said.

Eltinus Omaleng has been named a suspect in the corruption case in the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church in Mimika, Papua.

Referring to Tribunnews.com reports, the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church cost up to Rp 250 billion which was sourced from the Mimika Regency Government (Pemkab) Budget in 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2021.

In 2022, the Mimika Regency Government has again budgeted Rp 50 billion for the project.
