Papuan people hand over 14 weapons and ammunition to the Biak Danrem

The commander of Korem 173/Praja Vira Braja Brigadier General Taufan Gestoro received the handover of 14 organic and homemade firearms along with 15 rounds of mixed ammunition from the Papuan people at the Yudha Hall of Korem 173, Thursday.

Dozens of guns and ammunition were handed over to the TNI Security Task Force and the Korem 173/PVB Intel Team in Papua from several areas of responsibility for Korem 173/PVB including Puncak Jaya, Puncak, Deiyai and Paniai Regencies, Intan Jaya.
 
As for the types of rifles that were handed over directly to the Head of Intelligence, Korem 173/PVB, Lieutenant Colonel Kav. Ali Siregar, namely four long-barreled and 10 short-barreled rifles and 15 rounds of mixed ammunition. This weapon was then handed over to Denpal Biak as a material builder.
 
The handover of Senpi along with ammunition was the result of guidance by the TNI Task Force and the intelligence team in the Kolakops Korem 173/PVB area.

Danrem 173/PVB Brigadier General Taufan Gestoro said that Korem 173/PVB is an operating command that has areas of responsibility covering three customary areas, namely the Saereri customary area which covers the Cenderawasih Bay area, the Lapago customary area covering Puncak Jaya and Puncak Regency, and the territory of the Cenderawasih Bay area. Meepago customs include Paniai and Dogiyai Regencies.
 
Danrem acknowledged that the handing over of weapons and ammunition is one of the concrete proofs that the Papuan people, especially those in mountainous areas, want to live in safety and peace.

In addition, the Danrem continued, this proves that the existence of the TNI task force can be well received and provides a sense of security in the community.

“I would like to thank all the people who have consciously surrendered their weapons and ammunition voluntarily. This indicates that the public now understands better and understands the existence of the TNI task force in their area," said Danrem in a written statement received by ANTARA, Thursday.

Danrem Brigadier General Taufan Gestoro expressed his respect and sincere appreciation to all soldiers who are members of the task force in the Korem 173/PVB area.

"I invite all Papuan people to work together to build a peaceful Papua for the progress of Papua in the future," he said.
 
Present at the event, the Head of Kasrem 173/PVB, Dandim 1708/BN Lt. Col. Inf. Daniel Manalu, Biak Police Chief AKBP Tri Adi, and the chiefs adjutant to Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih.
