Papuan Religious Leaders Ask Governor Lukas Enembe to Obey the Law

Religious leaders, both Christian and Muslim in Papua, support the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) firm action against Papua Governor Lukas Enembe, who has been named a suspect by the anti-racism agency.

This was conveyed by Reverend Yones Wenda who also serves as Secretary of the Synod of the Indonesian Kingmi Gospel Tabernacle Church (KIMI) in Papua. According to him, the examination of Lukas Enembe is a consequence of his mistakes.

"Those who misuse state money, what can they do should be immediately investigated by the KPK," said Yones Wenda in a statement in Papua, Sunday (25/9).

Yones Wenda asked the Papuan people not to join in supporting people suspected of misusing the Regional Budget (APBD) in Papua.

"So we, the people of all Papua, should not get involved in supporting people who have become suspects of misusing APBD funds in Papua Province," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the caretaker of the Al Hidayah Firdaus Islamic Boarding School in Jayapura City, Ustad Ismail Asso, asked the Governor of Papua to follow the legal process carried out by the KPK against him.

"As a religious figure, I remain consistent and urge if indeed the chief of a large tribe, the Governor of Papua, Mr. Lukas Enembe, has his status as a suspect, I ask Governor Lukas Enembe to immediately surrender himself to be held accountable before the law," appealed Ismail Asso.

Ismail Asso, who is also the Chairman of the Central Mountains Muslim Communication Forum, suggested that Governor Lukas Enembe follow the legal process carried out by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and immediately be investigated by the KPK.

Thus, continued Ismail Asso, political certainty and orderly government services for the Papua Province run well, safely, peacefully and realize and improve the welfare of all Papuan people from all walks of life.

"This is an appeal as a religious figure for the future, continued security, prosperity and security for all Papuan people," he said.

Ismail Asso added that any Papuan official, if proven to be corrupt, especially if a suspect has been named, must still be processed by law.

"The guarantee is the reality of the poverty of the universal people of Papua as a benchmark of truth for me and I as a people are part of the small people and that is the reality (fact) that thousands of Papuan people have not been prosperous (poor)," he said.

Moreover, added Ismail Asso, all Papuan people have only heard of hundreds of billions, even trillions of money disbursed by the Central government, but there has never been a change in welfare for the underprivileged people during the 20 years of Otsus running so far.

He also criticized the demonstration that defended Governor Lukas Enembe after being officially named a suspect by the KPK in the alleged gratification case.
