The Papua Provincial Government encourages the presence of a community of citizens who care about digital literacy
The Papuan Provincial Government through the local Communication and Informatics Service continues to encourage communities to care about digital literacy so as to provide education to the public how to play healthy social media on Cenderawasih Earth.
Head of the Papua Province Communication and Information Office, Jeri Yudianto in Jayapura, Thursday said literacy is an important part for people throughout Indonesia, especially in Papua, for that his party and the center continue to carry out education with local youth.
"Like some time ago, we carried out digital literacy in Engga and Tobati Villages, Jayapura City, as well as several other schools, both junior high and high school levels as well as Papuan youth," he said.
According to Jeri, digital literacy is the flagship program of Diskominfo so that the community who cares about digital literacy can be present in Papua.
"We also plan to carry out digital literacy in the Yapen and Sarmi Islands Regencies with the socialization of digital literacy, it will maintain the digital space in Papua," he said.
He explained that with the formation of the community, it is hoped that it can influence other youths so that youth in Papua can sort out incoming information, both news and through social media.
"That way, the Papuan people in the future will be more selective in accessing the news and playing with the media about whether the information is true or false," he said.
He added that increasing literacy for the Papuan people is also expected to have an impact on the quality of the Human Development Index (IPM).
Just to note that Papua is still ranked below the HDI figure throughout Indonesia until the end of 2021, only 60.62.
