Acting Governors of 3 New Provinces in Papua Inaugurated 10 November

Three new provincial governors in Papua will be sworn in on 10 November 2022 in Jakarta. The inauguration of the acting governor was carried out simultaneously with the inauguration of 3 new autonomous regions (DOB) in Bumi Cenderawasih.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri), John Wempi Wetipo explained that currently there have been pre-inauguration by 3 working groups (pokja) at the Ministry of Home Affairs to prepare for the inauguration of 3 new autonomous regions, namely the Provinces of South Papua, Central Papua and Papua Mountains.

"If there are no obstacles, next Monday the name of the candidate for governor will be proposed to the president, so it is hoped that the inauguration and inauguration of 3 new autonomous regions is targeted around November 10, 2022," he said in Jayapura, Friday (28/10/2022).

Wempi ensured that the entire process of the inauguration of the acting governor and the inauguration of the 3 new autonomous regions would be focused on Jakarta and not in the regions.

"So, everything is focused on Jakarta, not in the areas as previously mentioned. If there will be a celebration or pick up of the official in question, go ahead," he said.

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs ensured that of the 3 acting governors, it was certain that there were native Papuans. "The acting (governor) is from Papua, obviously there is that," he said.

Previously on June 30, 2022, the government approved 3 new provinces in Papua as stated in Law No. 14/2022 on the formation of the Province of South Papua with the capital city in Merauke.
Then, Law No.15/2022 concerning the establishment of the Province of Central Papua with the capital city in Nabire and Law No.16/2022 concerning the establishment of the Papua Mountains Province with the capital city in Wamena.
