Raja Ampat welcomes the arrival of the world Geopark team

The Raja Ampat Regency Government, West Papua Province welcomes the arrival of the world Geopark team to discuss improving the geopark status of the Raja Ampat Islands.

Regent Abdul Faris Umlati in Waisai said on Sunday that the UNESCO Global Geopark World Geopark team would arrive in Raja Ampat district on October 12, 2022.

He explained that the arrival of two guests from the UNESCO Global Geopark Secretariat was in order to evaluate the status of the Raja Ampat Geopark to become an international standard Geopark.

According to the Regent, two guests of the UNESCO Global Geopark Secretariat, namely Mr. Charalampos Fassoulas and Mr. Alireza Amrikazemi. The two important guests from Greece and Iran will be in Raja Ampat for five days.

The Regent said that the Raja Ampat Geopark area has various potential natural resources which are now a separate tourist attraction. And fisheries as a leading sector in development.

The specialty of Raja Ampat is that it makes the area a conservation area protected by the state for sustainable tourism.

"The local government supports efforts to increase the status of Raja Ampat as part of the UNESCO Global Geopark," said Regent Umlati

He added that by becoming part of the UNESCO Global Geopark, Raja Ampat could become a better managed area, and make the community more prosperous.
