The Manokwari government prepares a low-cost market to reduce inflation

The Regency Government (Pemkab) of Manokwari, West Papua, is preparing a low-cost market operation to suppress regional inflation, although there has been no price increase.

Manokwari Regent Hermus Indou, in Manokwari, Sunday, said that the cheap market was an anticipatory measure to stabilize and not lead to inflation.

"We ensure that market operations continue in order to control all prices, especially basic materials and the prices of other goods and services in Manokwari Regency," he said.

Regent Hermus ensured that the Manokwari Regency Government continued to strengthen the regional inflation team that had been formed to work effectively.

Next week, he said there are plans for market operations to be held while monitoring developments on the impact of rising fuel prices on prices of basic goods and goods and services in Manokwari.

"Regional inflation or price fluctuations, especially in Manokwari Regency, have yet to be seen, but we will continue to take anticipatory steps," he said.

He said that Manokwari Regency only experienced inflation below six percent and was included in the low category throughout Indonesia. In particular, he expressed his gratitude because the increase in fuel prices did not cause extraordinary turmoil in Manokwari.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Manokwari noted that in August 2022 there was a deflation in Manokwari Regency of 0.79 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 114.70.

Deflation in Manokwari Regency occurred due to a decrease in prices as indicated by a decrease in indexes in two expenditure groups, namely the transportation group by 6.80 percent and the personal care and other services group by 0.51 percent.

The inflation rate for the calendar year from January to August in Manokwari was 3.04 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate from August 2021 to August 2022 was 5.13 percent.

Previously, Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani, in Jakarta, Monday (26/9), gave Regional Incentive Funds (DID) to 10 provinces, 15 regencies and 15 cities, in Indonesia because it was considered successful in reducing inflation in the regions.

West Papua Province received DID of Rp. 10.75 billion, Manokwari Regency received Rp. 10.41 billion and Sorong City received Rp. 10.66 billion.
